Entry Requirements
Discover what documents are required to enter Norway, whether it is an ID card, passport or visa.
Although Norway isn't part of the European Union, it is part of the Schengen Agreement, so its borders are open to citizens from European countries.
European citizens
European citizens and those from Schengen countries can enter Norway without a visa or passport. They only need a National Identity Card that is valid for the whole duration of their visit. These countries are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
However, we recommend bringing a valid passport to avoid any issues when visiting islands in Norway or processing documents at the bank or with other authorities.
Visa-exempt countries
People travelling for less than 90 days don't need a visa if they're nationals from: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Romania, San Marino, UK, Uruguay, USA and Venezuela.
Other countries
Citizens from other countries should check with the Norwegian ambassador from their country, or search for information on the website of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
