Norsk Folkemuseum
The Norwegian Folklore Museum (Norsk Folkemuseum) is an open-air museum that shows the history and culture of Norway through more than 150 historic buildings in which traditional items are exhibited, offering a journey into the past.

A walk through the village
The Norwegian Folklore Museum (Norsk Folkemuseum) is a green paradise with different areas of buildings dedicated to different times and places in the country.
In the museum, you can see rural areas with farms showing what life in these areas used to be like in the past, as well as showing the evolution of life in these areas during the 1940s and 1950s when many new commodities and comforts became available.
It's also possible to see an old petrol station and pharmacy, fully furnished and decorated houses, and a grocery shop where you can eat or shop for typical products.
In the more modern part of the museum, you can visit a building of flats set in different periods with all the details intact, from clothes in the wardrobes to the television or radio programmes that were broadcast at the time.
The museum staff are dressed in traditional clothing. You can also see domestic animals in some areas, so during the tour, visitors can feel as if they're visiting different parts of Norway at different moments in history.
One of the highlights of the museum is a wooden church built in the 1200s, which was one of the first exhibits, having been moved to its present location in 1884.
A must-see museum
The Norsk Folkemuseum is one of the largest open-air museums in the world and one of the most interesting in the city. Given that it's a nature walk combined with a cultural and historical lesson, it's a very enjoyable visit, ideal for both children and adults.
